Know the Grape + Bean

GRAPE + BEAN wears multiple hats--we are a retail Wine Shop, a Coffee Spot, and a Wine Bar serving wines by the glass and a food menu (at dinner, lunch + brunch). We offer a warm, intimate, and comfortable environment in a circa 1850 building with exposed beams, and original brick + wood floors. It's a cozy space (code for small) and we can not accept reservations.

GRAPE + BEAN focuses on wine and coffee, hence the name, but we are about much more. So first, why wine and coffee?

  • Most compelling, wine + coffee are both handcrafted agricultural products and share many similarities from the influence of terroir to their seasonality to the farmers who work the fields
  • Simply, those who like wine often like coffee and vice versa (start your day with one, end your day with the other!)
  • And, personally, we call these the liquids of life but that probably says too much about our priorities.

GRAPE + BEAN, created and owned by long-time Alexandria residents David Gwathmey and Sheera Rosenfeld opened in 2008. David has more than 15 years in the hospitality, food, and wine industry and holds an MBA from George Mason University. Their vision for GRAPE + BEAN was also heavily influenced by their global travels, years living in San Francisco, and their desire to create a place that is comfortable, warm, welcoming, and one that offers excellent service and high quality products.

The goal is for customers to experience new things, come together, learn, and most importantly enjoy themselves. Please ask us questions, and let us help you if you we can. If we don't know the answer, we'll find it. Cheers!
